Early diagnosis and treatment of macular degeneration (ARMD)

Early diagnosis and treatment of macular degeneration (ARMD) can be potentially sight saving.  Diagnosis involves an OCT scan and fluorescein angiography, which can be performed in our procedure rooms onsite. We strive to deliver our patients with the best and most comfortable therapy utilizing Eylea, Lucentis, Avastin and Triamcinolone. Injections are performed in our sterile procedure room, using topical / local anaesthetic to make the procedure as pain free as possible. Injections are usually performed monthly until the ARMD subsides, at which point, treatment times may be extended. However, every patient’s needs and conditions are different and your individual management plan will be developed by your specialist.  A long-term course of treatment is vital to maximize visual capacity and maintain sight.

Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO)

Retinal Vein Occlusion is a clotting of the retinal vein triggering loss of vision and macular oedema. Rapid treatment with an avastin injection has replaced the previously adopted “wait and see” approach. It is also important to have a GP monitoring your blood pressure which can be associated with RVO. We treat all types of RVO including central and branch retinal vein occlusions.

Diabetic macular oedema (DMO)

Diabetic macular oedema is a frequent cause of vision loss because of the fluid retention in the macular.  DMO can be treated the several of the above mentioned medications.

As with all eye procedures, there are risks associated with ophthalmic procedures and these will be explained at the time of your consultation.  If you have any concerns regarding your eye after your procedure we recommend you contact the clinic to discuss your symptoms and arrange review. If you are unable to reach the clinic or one of our doctors, please attend your nearest Emergency Department for review.
