Dr Kate Hogden practices comprehensive Ophthalmology with sub-specialty interests in glaucoma, medical retina and cataract surgery. Dr Hogden completed her medical degree at the University of Queensland before moving to Sydney to undertake Ophthalmology training at the Sydney Eye Hospital. She then completed sub-specialty training in Glaucoma at the surgically renowned University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada for which she was awarded a RANZCO Topham Scholarship. Whilst at UBC, Dr Hogden also spent time at the prestigious Vitreoretinal department gaining invaluable medical and surgical retina experience. More recently, she gained further Medical retina experience on her return to Australia, while working as the Medical Retina fellow at the Sydney Eye Hospital. Here she gained invaluable experience in the management of common retinal conditions including diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration and retinal vein occlusions.
Dr Hogden performs various glaucoma laser procedures as well as traditional glaucoma surgeries (including trabeculectomy and glaucoma drainage devices). She also has a special interest in minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS). Dr Hogden enjoys tailoring cataract surgery to each individual patient’s needs and ocular status, and utilises the range of intraocular lens options currently available (including monofocal, extended depth of focus and multifocal intraocular lenses).
Empowering patients’ with the knowledge and understanding of their eye health is integral to Dr Hogden’s clinical approach. She is committed to discussing the various treatment options available and helping to establish a treatment plan that accomplishes each individual patient’s ocular health goals.
Aside from her work at the Rockhampton Eye Clinic, Dr Hogden also holds a public appointment at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital and is actively involved in Registrar teaching. She has completed a Masters of Medicine (Ophthalmic Science) from the University of Sydney. She is actively involved in ongoing clinical research and has presented at a number of Australian and international Ophthalmology conferences.
Having been raised in North Queensland and having family in Rockhampton, Dr Hogden enjoys practicing in Central Queensland and offering quality patient care. She looks forward to the opportunity to continue to serve the community as a part of the wonderful team at the Rockhampton Eye Clinic.
